Enrolling Your Child

Your Enrollment Counselor will be working with you to help with these matters, but the following documents will be needed to Enroll in the USA Distance Learning school system.

• Parent - Student Agreement
• Financial Agreement
• Request for Records Transfer
• Picture for Student ID card
• Birth Certificate (copy)
• Immunization Schedule Records (official copy) or Exemption Form
• Health Certificate (physical exam within last 12 months)

Basic Study Requirements

This will give you an idea of what will be required in the way of student performance and attendance.

1. Provide confirmation of 180 school days per calendar year.
2. Hours are recorded through online study and adult supervision.
   1. Grades 1 through 3 recommended 3 to 4 hours per day.
   2. Grades 4 through 12 recommended 5 to 6 hours per day.
3. Standardized Achievement Testing once per year (delivered online under TOPS supervision).
4. Students must maintain good behavior and seriousness (see Student Performance Page).

About Grading

For 1st through 12th grade, the following grading system will be used.

• A+ = 98-100% = 4.00 GPA
• A   = 94-97%     = 4.00 GPA
• A-  = 90-93%     = 4.00 GPA
• B+ = 88-89%     = 3.00 GPA
• B   = 84-87%     = 3.00 GPA
• B-  = 80-83%     = 3.00 GPA
• C+ = 78-79%     = 2.00 GPA
• C   = 74-77%     = 2.00 GPA
• C-  = 70-73%     = 2.00 GPA
• D+ = 68-69%     = 1.00 GPA
• D   = 64-67%     = 1.00 GPA
• D-  = 60-63%     = 1.00 GPA

Remember that High School CORE courses with grades less than 70% must be repeated, but the lower grade will be the one on transcript.

If CORE course credits are transferred into the TOPS program they must come with a grade over 70% or will need to be repeated through TOPS.

New High School Students

If your child has already completed some high school, then the grade level in TOPS will be determined by the number of high school credits already earned.

• Freshman (9th)      - 1-6 credits.
• Sophomores (10th) - 7-12 credits
• Juniors (11th)          - 13-18 credits
• Seniors (12th)          - 19-24 credits
